Membership is open to any woman with an established USGA handicap and those who plan to obtain a handicap by playing five (5) rounds of golf. These members pay annual dues, play 18 holes, go on league-sponsored golf trips and attend league-sponsored social events.
Long term members of GWGA who are 80 years or older and have been in the league for 10 years or more, can be designated Legacy Members for Life at the discretion of the Board. Legacy members do not pay dues, can play either 9 or 18 holes, go on league-sponsored golf trips and attend league-sponsored events. Legacy members will not win any prizes at the end of the year.
GWGA FEES AND AWARD POINTS
Membership – The membership fee for a season is determined by the outgoing Board prior to the fall luncheon. This is to allow for the payment of membership fees at the fall luncheon and well before the season. The membership fee must be paid prior to tee off time to qualify for prizes.
Handicap – The handicap fee is to register a golfer with the USGA Golf Handicap and Information Network (GHIN) system. This system maintains a golfer’s handicap throughout the season. The handicap fee may be paid through GWGA at Greendale or with another golf course.
Chip-in – The chip-in fee is optional for 2019. If a golfer opts in, the fee covers the entire season. Under a new procedure, monetary payouts for all chip-ins will occur at the end of the season. The payout amount will be determined by dividing the total of chip-in fees collected by the number of chip-ins. This will mean every chip-in will be awarded the same amount.
Award points – Part of the membership fee is used to fund awards at season end. The tournament/HC chair will develop a point system for these awards. The system will include points for league and senior champions, flight winners, championship contest winners (e.g. longest drive), and weekly game winners. The dollar value of one point may vary from year to year depending on the funds available in the treasury at the end of the season. The point system will be approved by the board and posted on the GWGA website.
Each season the one individual who shows most improvement in her handicap index earns approved award points for “most improved.” To be eligible for this award, a person must have played half of the scheduled events. The calculation is based on raw point differences from beginning of season to September 1.
Ringer by Flight
Each season, the person in each flight with the best ringer score earns approved award points. A ringer score is a player’s best score on each hole over all rounds played in the season. The season’s best score on hole 1 is added to the season’s best score on hole 2 and so forth through hole 18. Ringer scores are updated each week and can be found on the GWGA website.
The Ringer Competition shall begin the first week and run through the third Thursday
in October. Ringer scores will only be recorded on Thursdays following our individual stroke play tournaments. Ringer scores are not recorded if the game played involves team/group scores, such as a scramble.
Birdies, Eagles and Holes-in-One
Birdie, Eagle, and Hole-in-One pins are awarded for birdies, eagles, and holes-in-one on unique holes. Each member can earn up to 18 of each pin in a season—one for each hole. Holes-in-one on par 3 holes are also eagles but will only be recognized as holes-in-one. At the end of the season the person in each flight with the most birdies is given approved award points. All eagles and holes-in-one also receive approved award points.
Most Birdies by Flight
The tracking of birdies begins the first week of golf and runs through the third Thursday in October. This category totals the number of birdies made during the season. All golfers are eligible to win this category. One golfer per flight will win this category. If there is a tie, then all golfers tied will win their flight.
Most Chip-ins by Flight
The tracking of chip-ins begins the first week of golf and runs through the third Thursday in October. This category totals the number of chip-ins made during the season. All golfers are eligible to win this category. One golfer per flight will win this category. If there is a tie, then all golfers tied will win their flight.
